Creating a memory foam mattress foundation Steps to do

If you’re interested in building a memory foam mattress foundation, I’ve created the easiest 4 step DIY guide! All you need to build a mattress foundation is hardwood and a few essential tools. All in all, we’ve covered everything you need to know about memory foam foundations in this guide.

Step 1 – Get your wood

Before starting construction, make sure you have all the wood you need for the job. Then measure the length and width of your memory foam mattress and set up your foundation in different ways.

First, you need to flush the mattress against the edges of the frame. This will make it easier to make the bed, but the mattress can move.

Second, create a border around the mattress to keep it stable while it sits in a cradle. However, keeping sheets and mattress covers on it can be a problem.

In either case, you will measure the overall frame as well as determine the cross bars for support. Depending on the width of the bed, you will need at least two or three cross beams to prevent sagging or breakage.

Note that the length of the outer frame will be slightly longer than the middle cross bars. You will need other wood frames to have slats on the legs. These slats will provide better rigidity and long legs will give you storage space under the bed, so, plan your construction accordingly.

Step 2 – Create the frame

When building your mattress foundation make sure you have enough of a specific work area. But we recommend making it in the bedroom where you will keep it. Attach the two side pieces to the end pieces to make the frame and use wood glue so you can hammer in the nails without shifting the wood. Check how long it takes to dry the wood. Once the outer frame is set, insert the cross bars so they are lengthwise as your slats will go across the width of the bed.

Use wood glue to set them in place and after the glue dries you can use screws or nails.
can If you use screws you can drill a hole so you can work faster.

Step 3 – Add the slats

Now that your frame is screwed or nailed you can add the slats. The slats will be attached to each side of them, as well as setting the crossbars in the middle will make the slats more stable. Again, you can add more slats to provide extra support and make sure you have enough to prevent sagging. If you want to create more stability, you can glue them in place before screwing them in when building the frame.

Step 4 – Add the legs

If you have a swing, the frame will need to be flipped over to add the legs. Again if it’s flush, you can attach the legs and flip the frame over once it’s in. You can attach the frame legs to the wooden corners where the two sides meet. It is best to glue them first and then nail them to the frame.

Another thing to remember is that you can attach the legs in the middle of the frame. Depending on the size of your bed can cause unnecessary stress and potentially bow the head. Again if the foot is placed on the side it will create more stability.
